Ref: 10.06.1943 Deutsches Marine-Kommando Toulon Until the fall of 1942, the southern part of France was not occupied by German troops. German troops only moved in in November. At first the organization was only improvised. The Italian Navy took over command and only one German office remained in Toulon. In terms of military service, the German units were subordinate to the sea commander Toulon, Captain Rolf Gumprich. In December the name and also the commander changed. Rear Admiral Werner Scheer became head of the German naval command in Toulon. After Italy's surrender, the office of the Commanding Admiral was created. Units stationed at Toulon included: Marine Artillery Detachment 612 (05.43 - 09.43) Light Marine Artillery Detachment 682 Marine Flak Detachment 819 29.Submarine Flotilla (partial) 7.Speedboat Flotilla (partial) In the La Valette district: staff of the naval commander, naval artillery arsenal, parts of the 28th naval motor vehicle department, navy office.
