The cover was posted during the period of increasing economic persecution of Jewish businesses under National Socialist rule. Two years later, in 1938, Rhonheimer & Elkan was sold to Hans Andreae of Hamburg-Wandsbek. Crucially, the surviving file concerning this transaction is preserved by the Baden-Württemberg State Archives amongst the Baden Ministry of Finance's official “Arisierungsakten” (Aryanisation files).
