1st April 1943 Stalag III-B 1st April 1943 Stalag III-B 1/1 French POW postcard (complete with unattached reply card) sent from Stalag III-B in Fürstenberg to an address in France. At this time the camp held over 20,000 French POW's (as well as those from Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union and the USA). Ref: 01.04.1943 Stalag III-B Stalag III-B was open in December 1939 and was located in Fürstenberg/Oder until February 1945. It was then moved to Luckenwalde (Brandenberg) in February 1945 and in March/April 1945 to Stettin. It was liberated on 28th April 1945. Research reveals that from this camp prisoners would be transported to America for detention. However, following the Italian surrender, inmates would be offered the opportunity to fight with the Allies against the German forces. It is also noted that after the war German POW's were recruited to the French Foreign Legion. Other Camps - CAMP 126 Saint Cloud, CAMP 101 at Casablanca. They had to register at a post office and the card was stamped every time they bought new stamps. New issues will only be handed out on presentation of this card. They must be collected within one week of the 1st day of issue, otherwise the entitlement lapses. The issue of the stamps is certified by the date stamp (reverse side). In the case of smaller quantities of special stamps, the allocation may be limited. No compensation will be paid in the event of loss or misuse of the permit.
