Ref: 02.11.1942 Heinkel He 112 The Heinkel He 112 is a German fighter aircraft designed by Walter and Siegfried Günter. It was one of four aircraft designed to compete for the 1933 fighter contract of the Luftwaffe , in which it came second behind the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Small numbers were used for a short time by the Luftwaffe and some were built for other countries, with around 100 being completed. 26th May 1942 Ostrava-Karviná Coalfield Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia — official industrial correspondence from the Direktoren-Konferenz des Ostrauer Steinkohlenrevieres (Directors' Conference of the Ostrava Coalfield), Mährisch-Ostrau, to retired Senior Technical Councillor Ing. Jaroslav Unzeitig at Prague-Smíchov, May 1942. The communication, dated 12 May 1942, concerns a payment of 30,000 Protectorate crowns transmitted through the Prague Postal Savings Bank and requests confirmation that the amount had been credited. The Directors' Conference was a long-established organisation of the important Ostrava–Karviná coalfield, originating in 1888 and concerned with matters including coal and coke production, employment, wages, industrial relations and technical administration. The document closes with the compulsory/formal “Heil Hitler!” salutation characteristic of official and business correspondence under German occupation. It was subsequently mailed from Mährisch-Ostrau using 40h + 40h + 30h Bohemia and Moravia definitives. The reason for the substantial 30,000-crown payment and Unzeitig's precise former technical position remain under investigation. Ref: 26.01.1942 - 15/70, MFP2/155 FPN 44744 2nd Company, Intelligence Department 128 (23rd Panzer Division) T he 23rd Panzer Division was established on the 21st September 1941 in France. It was built around the 101st Panzer Brigade and two infantry regiments and initially equipped with 'booty tanks' which were soon after exchanged for German tanks. In March 1942, the division went to the Eastern Front near Kharkov as a subdivision of the German Sixth Army. It was to remain within the Army Group South for the major part of its service. The division took part in the German advance to the Caucasus, but was subsequently sent north to Stalingrad. It escaped encirclement when the 6th Army was trapped there, and took part in the subsequent failed relief attempt. At the end of its first year on the Eastern Front the 23rd Panzer Division had lost 90 percent of its tanks. The 23rd Panzer Division was part of the German defence and retreat in the southern Ukraine, frequently being moved between crisis points. Between April and July 1944 it was a part of the 8th Army within the Army Group South Ukraine defending the area to the north of Jassy. After being sent to Poland in mid-1944, the division returned to the southern sector during the collapse of the German frontline in Romania. After the retreat into Hungary the division fought in defensive battles there. The majority of the division was trapped and destroyed in Székesfehérvár in March 1945. 17th November 1942 Ballon Batterie 100 Feldpost cover sent to Oberwachtmeister W. Recker at Ballon Batterie 100 stationed at this time at Jüterbog camp. the contents of the envelope include a hand written letter and a typescript personnel sheet (copy using Roto-Werke?/Mimeograph?) with hand written additions. These list people to their jobs within Ballonzugs B 7. Note regarding 'Oberwachtmeister' - Oberfeldwebel was taken on as second-highest Protégée-NCO rank by the German Wehrmacht in 1935. In the military branch cavalry, artillery and anti-aircraft artillery it was called Oberwachtmeister. Ballon Batterie 100 The balloon battery (mot) 100 was created in the winter of 1939/40 in the village of Zinna on the Jüterbog military training area. Its commander was Captain Luyken. From January 1940, the battery stood on the West Wall, then took part in the French campaign and then came to the Channel coast to be prepared for Operation Sea Lion. On the 22nd June 1941, the battery fought on the Eastern Front until October 1942. It was commanded back to Jüterbog to serve in the home garrison as a basis for four new balloon trains, which were supplied to individual observation departments, such as the Observation Detachments 27 and 44. It was possibly intended to assign one of these to the B 7. However, this certainly did not take place, as the division was surrounded at Stalingrad was encircled. 23rd August 1942 Lindau Postcard depicting an aerial view of Lindau (im Bodensee - Lake Constance), sent from Lindau to Vienna. Ref: 23.08.1942 Lindau Lindau is a major town and island on the eastern side of Lake Constance ( Bodensee in German) in Bavaria, Germany. It is the capital of the county of Lindau, Bavaria and is near the borders of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, and the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Thurgau. Postcard sent in 1946 from Lindau to Donaueschingen. It depicts the harbour entrance and a pleasure cruiser departing into the open water of the Bodensee. (Note that two of the flags have been partially obliterated due to them displaying the swastika). The building on the right is the lighthouse, built between 1853 and 1856 at the end of the west pier and put into operation on 4th October 1856. This made it the successor to the Mangturm, which had been built in 1230; therefore it is sometimes referred to as the new lighthouse. To the left sits the Bavarian Lion (placed in 1856), symbolic in the Wittelsbach royal heraldry since 1214 and the Free State of Bavaria. Ref: 03.06.1946 - 16/15 After World War II, Lindau fell under French military administration and went first to Württemberg-Hohenzollern and then to the State of Baden-Württemberg.
