  • Waffenstillstands Kommission

14th September 1940 Waffenstillstands Kommission 1/1 Cover bearing the Briefstempel of the Waffenstillstands Kommission based in Wiesbaden. Note: The correspondence has been sent from the 'Hotel 4 Jahreszeiten'. Ref: 14.09.1940 Waffenstillstands Kommission (Armistice Commission) The German Armistice Commission (WAKO) was a political administrative body based in Wiesbaden that existed from 1940 to 1944, with a branch office in Paris, the former French Task Force of the Supreme Commander West. Its function was to carry out the task arising from the Franco-German armistice of 25th June 1940, to supervise compliance with the armistice conditions imposed on France, particularly in military terms. After the German Reich and France had been at war with each other since 3rd September 1939 in the early phase of the Second World War, the German armed forces defeated France in the course of the Western Campaign. On 22nd June 1940, the governments of both countries concluded an armistice agreement, which came into force on 25th June 1940. As a direct result of this treaty, the German Armistice Commission (WAKO) was set up in Wiesbaden and began its work on 30th June 1940. It reported directly to Adolf Hitler. The chief of staff was assigned to the commission, and all groups except the Marine Group were later placed under his command. A French delegation, the Délégation Française auprès de la Commission Allemande d'Armistice (DFCAA), acted as a link to this commission to convey German instructions to the French government, which was responsible for their practical implementation. At the same time, the DFCAA passed on the Vichy government's wishes and suggestions to the German commission. The work of the WAKO was supported by the control inspections in Bourges, which consisted of inspections of the army, the air force and armaments. There was also an Africa control inspection in North Africa (Casablanca). In addition, there was a German Armistice Commission for Economic Affairs under the envoy Johannes Hemmen. The German Armistice Commission existed as a large-scale authority for almost four years. The commission's quarters were in the hotels Vier Jahreszeiten and Nassauer Hof in Wiesbaden, while the French were accommodated in the Hotel Rose. Ref: 04.06.1939 - 29/46 Nazi views on public health developed within the context of German cultural traditions and medical science in the early 20th century. Many of the regime's public health priorities—such as eugenics, group exercise, and warnings against alcohol and tobacco—were first popularised during the years of the Weimar Republic. For example, in the 1930 film, 'Born out of Necessity', young Germans are urged to fight the negative health effects of life in modern cities by exercising together and engaging in wholesome social activities instead of drinking and smoking. These themes were later reflected in public health policies after the Nazi rise to power in 1933. Nazi public health officials adopted many of these traditions and ideas, but the Nazi regime’s public health policies were concerned solely with promoting the health of so-called 'Aryan' Germans. According to Nazi ideology, every member of the so-called ' Volksgemeinschaft ' (German racial community) was like a single cell in the larger national body. Each individual had a duty to stay healthy and strong so that the German nation could conquer other peoples and colonise their lands. These theories about individual health and national strength were influential throughout Europe and the United States in the early 20th century. However, Nazi Germany's policies were much more extreme than those of any other nation. • DARAG

22nd April 1937 DARAG 22nd April 1937 DARAG 1/1 Commercial cover (window envelope) sent from 'DARAG' (DAvid Richter AG) in Chemnitz to an unknown correspondent. Featuring machine cancel D.3 Francotyp Model 'C' (77 - 79mm, vertical rectangle with swastika, multi value meter, double circle, angular font). Ref: 22.04.1937 - 17/39 'DARAG' (Da vid R ichter A.-G.) Around 1860 Chemnitz achieved worldwide fame as a center of the textile industry and mechanical engineering. The tradition of textile machine building in Chemnitz dates back to 1789 with the production of carding and spinning machines by the Bernhard brothers. In 1887 Abraham David Richter founded a sock factory, in 1907 it was transformed into David Richter AG. DARAG was now one of the five most important industrial companies in Chemnitz. Interestingly, the company was active in the production of textile machinery as well as in textile production itself: the factory at Annaberger and Sedanstrasse in Chemnitz owned a machine factory where the machines for socks, heels, lace and tulle 'Cotton' were produced . On the other hand, cotton and silk nozzles were produced in a tulle factory. In 1939 the production of machine tools, which had already been carried out, was resumed. From 1942 DARAG mainly supplied turret lathes and weapons, in 1945 the company was destroyed by air raids and dismantling, in 1946 it was one of the first companies in Chemnitz to resume production. In 1954 transfer into public ownership at the request of the workforce (VEB Tüllmaschinenbau Karl-Marx-Stadt, from 1963 VEB Malimo sewing machine construction, from 1985 VEB Textimaforschung in the Kombinat Textima Karl-Marx-Stadt). Reprivatized in 1991 as Textimaforschung Malimo Chemnitz + Malimo Maschinenbau GmbH. Taken over by Karl Mayer in 1992 and merged with KÄNDER Textilmaschinenbau to form KARL MAYER MALIMO Textilmaschinenfabrik GmbH. The Chemnitz company at Mauersberger Str. 2 is today one of the most modern companies in the sector.
