Notes:


Early concentration camp set up in the Shützenhaus (Gaststätte Erzebirgischer Hof).


Prayer room for Jewish residents set up at 17 Buchholzer Straße. Later all Jews expelled.


Jewish cemetry destroyed in 1940.


Indian soldiers trained in Annaberg (the Azad Hind).


Annaberg was spared bombing during WWII but neighbouring Buchholz was severley damaged on 14th February 1945.

There were no special cancellations produced during the 3rd Reich period for Annaberg (Erzbeg), and only two previous to this, both for events in 1925. This cancellation celebrating 450 of Annaberg was the first post-war special cancellation (with none being listed by Bochmann up to 1951). Note that cancellations of this type with a date stamp between 12th - 29th September 1946 are of a higher value than those sent after these dates.
