Mi.830 (26.01.1943) Supplemental/Postmark stamp



Commercial cover sent from stamp dealer H.C. Robert in Köln to a correspondent in Preßnitz (no longer inhabited due to the building of a reservoir in the 1970s). The cover features the single use of supplementary postage stamp Mi.830. Ref: 24.02.1943 - 16/89

Notes on Mi.830:
Michel states, 'MiNr. 830 was primarily intended to supplement postage, but could be used also for normal postal purposes.' [As is shown above]
Harper & Scheck states, 'This stamp was specially issued for obtaining special postmarks. The design is simple so as not to detract attention from the postmark, and the colour sufficiently light so that it does not overshadow the p/mk. the collector affixed one of these stamps to either an envelope or a card or even a piece of paper, and the postal clerk would oblige by cancelling it with whatever special p/mk was in use at that particular time. The surtax on this stamp represents the fee for this service. The stamp could also be used as normal 3 Pfg. stamp.'
