The 'Family Home' was founded in 1930 to combat the housing shortage, that prevailed at the time, through non-profit housing construction. As early as 1929, poor housing provision was the central theme and motto of the 68th German Church Congress, which took place in Freiburg.

Many personalities from the ecclesiastical, political and economic spheres came together to implement the decisions of the Church Congress. The aim was to create an instrument for procuring housing, especially for families with a large number of children. This led to the founding of our cooperative.

From the beginning, our most important task has been to provide our members with affordable housing. Construction began on a building with 36 apartments in the year it was founded. To date [2024], we have completed a total construction work of around 4,917 apartments.
