Hermann Braun

A Ross-Verlag postcard featuring film actor Hermann Braun. Ref:11.08.1941
Hermann Braun (1917–1945), German film and stage actor, was killed during the final months of the Second World War near Litzmannstadt (Łódź), Poland. Having reportedly lost his exemption from military service following critical remarks about the National Socialist regime, Braun was initially employed with the Berliner Soldatenbühne before being sent to the Eastern Front. Most sources place his death during heavy fighting on 18th January 1945, although a German war-graves record reportedly gives 20th January. One biographical account states that Braun, serving as a radio operator, was shot by a sniper while in open ground; this specific circumstance has not yet been independently confirmed. His death occurred during the Soviet Vistula–Oder offensive, as German forces were retreating from the Łódź area.
