Mi.P12/02 - III.42. - 12 (Gr) - see 35/35 (German-occupied Poland — General Government postal card dated 17 March 1943, sent by Heinrich Slomkowski, who gives his address as “Belz, Distrikt Lublin” and his affiliation as the Allgemeine Versicherungsanstalt, Generalgouvernement. Research establishes that the Allgemeine Versicherungsanstalt auf Gegenseitigkeit was the German occupation-era designation of the Polish Powszechny Zakład Ubezpieczeń Wzajemnych (PZUW), a major mutual insurance institution which continued compulsory and voluntary insurance operations under German occupation. Slomkowski asks the Ferdinand Enke publishing house in Stuttgart to send, cash on delivery, five books concerned principally with pregnancy, motherhood, childbirth, infant care and infant nutrition. His precise position within the insurance organisation has not yet been established, and the exact identification of “Belz” requires further confirmation. The concentrated subject matter of the order may indicate a personal rather than professional reason for purchasing the books, but this remains an interpretation rather than a confirmed fact.)
