Collectors card from the Pisek Stamp Exhibition of 1st-8th June 1941. Featuring a complete set of the newspaper stamp issue (Mi.42-50 - first issued 25.08.1939). Note that there are a number of souvenir covers, postcards and collectors cards for this exhibition. All appear to have the same 'St.Anne' design with its view from the Pisek Stone Bridge (one of the rarest medieval bridges in Central Europe). Ref: 08.06.1941 - 9/34

Jaroslav Benda


Jaroslav Benda (1882 - 1970) was Czech painter, graphic artist, author, designer of postage stamps and posters, monumental decorations. His contributions significantly affected the development of Czech book graphics.


He graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Prague. From 1907 to 1912 he was an editor of the magazine Světozor. He was advisor to publishers, Jan Laichtr and Jan Štenc for the proposed modification of individual books. From 1920 he was Professor of Applied Arts at the School of Applied Arts. In the years 1926-1928 he was the rector. His students included Zdeněk Seydl, Jaroslav Šváb, Antonín Strnadel, Jiří Trnka and Antonín Homolka.
