Bayreuth - Denkmal der nationalen Bewegung (reverse)
1/1
Postcard depicting the 'National Movement Monument' situated in Luitpoldplatz, Bayreuth, designed by Hans Reissinger in 1934. Ref: 01.09.1934
In 1934 Reissinger became a member of the NSDAP. Later that year he was commissioned, by the National Socialist mayor of Bayreuth, Karl Schlumprecht, to produce a national monument. Reissinger designed a 123cm high swastika, lying flat on the ground with a clenched fist clutching snakes rising from its centre. Apparently, local residents used the monument as a urinal and it was eventually removed.
